Check out
What Your Favorite ’80s Band Says About You, by John Peck in
McSweeney's Internet Tendency. Lots of amusing bits; different ones will appeal to different categories of my friends.
"Weird Al" Yankovic's new album ALpocalypse has been out for two weeks now. Here are links to
this promo and
that promo which are not as new but are still funny.
Speaking of Weird Al, I recently heard (on
bomb_shelter_r)
"It's All About The Pentiums", a piece of which reminded me of the song
"PC99" by Tom Smith.
Here's Tom:
"The most sophisticated stuff in years
Is out of date before your check clears..."
Here's Al:
"My new computer's got the clocks, it rocks
But it was obsolete before I opened the box
You say you've had your desktop for over a week?
Throw that junk away, man, it's an antique
Your laptop is a month old? Well that's great
If you could use a nice, heavy paperweight..."
These songs are a dozen years old. Seems to me that some things never change.
I get catalogs from
L. L. Bean like so many others. Near the address on the cover, the following is printed: "Visit our store at Tysons Corner Center, Virginia, or The Mall in Columbia, Maryland." Guess which Bean store I *actually* shop at most often?
