Today started out depressing. First I had a lecture in genome biology which was an intro to the prac which just got me stressed about it. Then I was supposed to have a lecture in microbial psychology and biotechnology but nothing happened so I left after a while feeling stupid. But afterwards I went to the soc mart. I joined many socs in my foundation yr and had trouble keeping up because of studies clashes and social life so I didn't join any in the next 2 yrs. This yr I decided to have a look. I joined the Jewish soc and got a free cool goodie bag which includes a very handy jewish dairy! :D I also joined the photography soc which sounds awesome. For £10 there'll be trips inc ones to London and I can learn how to use the dark room and use it when ever I want! :D It's open 24 hrs a day! I missed the wildlife soc the first time. After I returned with cash I happen to notice it. It sounds really good, whith trips to wildlife reserves and conservation! :D Just what I was looking for. :) Then I went to the sportmart (for sport socs). I decided to join the equitant soc because I thought trying out horse riding could be fun but on the way to get more money to join I came across a tent about the Cambridge university officer training corps. It sounds like a fun way to get fit. I'm gong to go to the presentation on Mon if it doesn't clash with the dinner celebrating the end of fasting (which I'll not do) on Mon as part of the Jewish soc. If it does then I might leave it. My mum doesn't think I'll last one sec there and keeps making fun. :( Even if she's right it doesn't hurt to try plus if I keep going I'll get fitter and I'll paid £70 for one weekend! :D
I then saw Kay about my final yr project. I can choose up to 4. I'll do ony 1. All the ones I've choosen are all related to my studentship somehow. Hers is on actinomycins associated with lichens. My studentship was on Streptomyces coelicolor which is an actinomycin (produces antibiotics). We chatted about it and she thought I might not like working on my own as the projects normally have research gps so told me to think about it and gave me an article on it (the only bit of research done on the subject). :S I'll read it later. I'll also put another on bacterial ligases on the form and another on the same species I worked on for which I was told I'll be welcome to do it. 2moro I'll visit the institute of food research next to where I worked to chat to someone else about the forth project which will be on a different bacteria but will involve the same sort of techniques. I want to do that one the most as the IFR is very prestigious and I never worked there before.
