Last week, local radio icon Rick Beckett died of a heart attack at 54. Chicago Bulls legendary announcer, Johnny "Red" Kerr died at 76. And another former Chicago Bulls great (player, not radio), Norm Van Lear, died at 61. Today I log on to find out that radio news guy Paul Harvey has passed on at age 90. Who else famous in radio is next? Or does that make three and that's all for now?
Ed McMahon is on the ropes. Andy Richter better check in to a hospital or something just to be cautious.
Socks the Cat died two weeks ago. He/it was 18.
Now you just have to imagine being told the news of a dead celebrity, and imagine Yakety Sax firing up. It's morbid and funny at the same time. Jim Rome has been doing this on his radio show, saying that playing that song makes everything better. "Honey, I'm sorry but I just got laid off for good today, we can't make the house payment. (cue music)"
Ok if you don't know what Yakety Sax is, then go to this link:
