Susan Ellis was at the hospital late yet again. She didn't know when the last time she had slept was. She felt tired physically. She could barely drag herself to get more coffee, yet her mind wouldn't calm down enough for her to get any sleep. The good thing was, she was all caught up with her work. The bad thing was, she had nothing else to do there, and had no excuse to stay.

She decided to go see what was on TV in the lounge, not that she really liked television. She hadn't watched it since high school.

Talking with Audrey had made her start thinking about her own life. She needed to make a life for herself outside her job. She hadn't had a real relationship in the longest time, and there was no reason for her to isolate herself from that sort of thing. She had a stable job now, and shouldn't be staying so late at the hospital. The truth of the matter was, she just didn't want to go home to face her empty, dreary apartment. She had no pets, no friends to call, nothing. What was she to do once she got home except sit around and be lonely? At least at the hospital there was the possibility of meeting more people or at least feeling like she was making herself useful.

Probably she only felt this way because she was the new girl. But truthfully, she had felt like this all through college and medical school. When would it end?

She tried to stop thinking about it as she sat down in a comfortable chair in front of the television, but she didn't bother to turn it on. She just sat there and was left alone with her thoughts.
