I will probably not but updating again until Sunday, but I will try and write entries for each until then (I'm supposedly off to Tonga, if I don't miss my flight this afternoon).
Yesterday I went to a discussion with a Christian dude and his Argument from Morality, which I'm finding nauseating, and slowly building up a succinct response too, but every time I get involved with this argument and it's supporters I get depressed and angry. I will explain at some point what it's all about - but I have to be in the right mood to talk about it.
Afterward I left my USB drive thingy in one of the computers at uni, and it wasn't there when I went back to check a few hours later, and no one had handed it in. That made me grumpy. Must make sure that any USB drive I use at uni is small, and has nothing on it (except what I want to print out, for example).
My little side project can be found
here. It's a C64 emulator! That means it is a program which pretends to be an old computer, to run old computer software - ultimately I'm wanting an advanced 8-bit computer IDE (Integrated Development Environment). To use it download the zip, unzip it (right mouse click or whatever - don't just use the Windows automatic zip handler thingy). Go to unziped folder, double-click Flappy.jar (or right-click run as and choose Java). To play a game, select "open and run" (or load and run) a file from the Games folder (or you can try "prg", "d64", or "t64" files you may find on the net).
Notes: the "Run-stop" key is mapped to escape. C64s take awhile to decompress - be patient. The joystick is mapped to the numeric keypad (check num-lock if it doesn't work). There are two joystick ports on a c64, if the game doesn't respond, select "swap joysticks". On "intros" you usually have to press space to get anywhere. The game Fish In Space I wrote when I was a lot younger. If things hang, or you want to try a different game, you will need to reset the "C64" by going to the File menu. "Soft reset" does not clear the c64 memory, and may not fully reset (it's like a normal reset on a C64), "hard reset" will always work, and is like turning the computer off and then on again.
It should work for Macs but I haven't tried it. It works well under Linux, but only so-so under Windows.
