And so it came to pass that I finally submitted my nomination for the upcoming local body elections. It was very stressful, and the concluding moments passed with a lack of spectacular flair, but then again.
I think I'm just going to have to give in and say that yeah, at least in part, my skin problems are caused/worsened by stress. Everything probably cleared up in Australia because I was in heaven.
This is actually a rather significant thing for me, this election biz. I'm nervous because I feel I may be (if I get anywhere) entering a new phase in my life - the first phase in a larger project that I started thinking about 5 or so years ago. I have to give it my "all" though. I have a feeling that I may cause some disgruntled feelings from people on the left, or
City Vision anyhow, because I may act as a vote splitter for their
united left. Of course, I'm running for a position in the lowest level of the political structure, but I can see a certain friend of mine making "grrr" sounds (we are always like this because she's like "Greenpeace or Green Party", and I'm like "er, none for me thanks"). Let us not forget that part of the subdivision I'm running for includes areas of the electorate that voted Rodney Hide in...
Today I registered six new domain names - bringing my personal total to 10.
New ones include:
votegoode.co.nz, votegoode.geek.nz, votegoode.com, matthewgoode.co.nz, matthewgoode.geek.nz, and goode4auckland.com (this one already goes to my new public blog related to the election) - my first election expenses.
Other domain names I currently have include: trashme.org.nz (I don't know why I still have that), scratchy.org.nz (for my open source stuff eventually, and my email), animals.org.nz, and aaoc.org.nz (which I'll probably cancel when its year is up). Sigh.
I have no intention on the website (when it gets created), or on any promotional material, of specifying much about what I intend to do. Instead I'm going to take the approach of giving an overview of the underlying beliefs I have about the nature of people (sounds deep I know), and what I think makes a just society, and an environmentally ethical one. Maybe this doesn't make sense or seem significant now, but I think it will. Bear with me (intentional incorrect spelling because it's late at night). I have a plan.
In other news German Philosophy class was interesting - we are on to Heidegger, and the nature of being. This of course is very interesting because the number one philosophical topic I think about is the nature of being and existence. Trust me, this is a far more freaky and fascinating topic than might first appear.
The next few days shall involve me doing two assignments. I may also present you with a piece of software that does something (something obscure of course).
Moments of strange communion of all people include me strangely finding a $20 note on the road in Newmarket. This moment of fortunate chance-uponing lead to a number of positive "good find!" from passing pedestrians and motorists. It felt like I ought to have been giving out high fives to people, and that someone should've said "hoo-ya", and then we should have started dancing (I always think this when cycling listening to music). The money will go charity. I suggest you contribute in someway to the Pakistan flood relief efforts, if you can* (I have, to a value over $20...)
I was listening to the BBC (jigsaw time), and some chap was talking about our strange psychology where we tend to give more when more people had died, which is not so useful as the dead don't need the money much.
Matthew Banister on the BBC often says "please join us, if you can". For some reason I find that amusing.

I love Auckland. It is a beautiful city, with a rich variety of people from many different beliefs, cultures and lifestyles, and this vibrant diversity must be central to Auckland's core identity and guiding ethos.
I believe a community needs to be created, not for, but by, its members. We need the facilities to allow people to express themselves meaningfully, and to allow them to live and work in a way that does not disadvantage, or privilege, any particular group. We need development that is sustainable, environmentally responsible, and leaves no one out.
To obtain this, Auckland needs people who can: communicate effectively with everyone, think analytically but creatively, find innovative solutions, and see issues from all viewpoints. It needs people with passion and principles, but who are not dogmatic or inflexible. I believe I am such a person, so please, vote for me. (votegoode.geek.nz, 022-628-7232)

I like that photo - I look my age (which I'm beginning to feel... sigh) - it's probably useful in the context.
