Russ, me ol' salt, that's an axolotl. Salamader larva. If it ever grows up, a la Peter Pan, it will look more like a lizard, which is what most salamanders end up doing, except that one.

I was about to say the same thing. My primary school used to have many of them. Then one day the white one ate the rest.

that increases coolness tenfold. x10! can they still live underwater when they're a salamander, or are they ... land.... monsters.

oh! how long are they an axelottle for.?... sorry if i'm bugging you but you seem like the authority on axolotli.

when they grow up they are like frogs - they can hang out on land, but need to be near water to maintain a moist skin.

And axalotl make the change due to environmental triggers. Most axalotl won't change. unless you're mean to them. Normal salamanders grow up when it's time to grow up, like tadpoles turning into frogs.

Time to grow up.
