Letter to Senator Grassley

I just sent this letter in response to an article on MSNBC

Senator Grassely -

I just read an article on msnbc.com that says you want to cut the $3 billion that has been slated to go to the National Science Foundation because some of their employees were looking at porn on the internet. I can tell you the scientific community as a whole is aghast that you seem to not understand where that money will go. It is not to pay the salaries of people at the NSF who may be misbehaving. It is slated to not only keep scientists, such as myself, working but also to advance our understanding of the natural world and provide quality Professors at our nation's Universities.

To put it in other terms - it would be like saying you needed to lay off 1/3 of the Senate and slash the salaries of everyone else associated (such as staff, secretaries, maintenance, etc.) because a couple of your fellow Senators were caught in sex scandals.

If you really feel such a reaction is defensible, perhaps you'll give up your pay and the pay of all of your staff to atone for Sen. Craig or those Senators who were patrons of the D.C. Madam.

We need funding for more than blue-collar jobs in this country. Don't punish thousands for the sins of a few.
