Dr Calvin wasn't in her office.

Instead, thanks to a visit to the opthamologist and a set of new bifocals-- blended line, difficult to tell they were bifocal lenses-- she was working on a stubborn piece of coding in one of the downstairs lounges, laptop set up on a folding TV tray.

A soft thump against the door to the longue could be heard a few times until it finally swung open, letting Marcus roll in the room. Noticing Calvin, he drove towards her, pleased at figuring out where she was. "Hello."

"Hello. Have you mislaid your father?" Calvin asked, mildly.

"Dad's talking to a scientist. I wanted to see you." He rolls forward again, giving her foot a friendly nudge. "Guess what I did to today."

[dr_s_calvin]

"Broke the sound barrier?"

[kro_jr]

"...Huh?" Marcus paused for a moment, trying to make sense of the comment, then continued. "Nope. Dad taught me hide and seek today. And tag."

[dr_s_calvin]

"I see. I take it you enjoyed yourself?" She continued tapping away at the keys.

[kro_jr]

"Yeah. Dad's better at hide and seek when he's human, though. He's too big to hide when he's a car." He paused again. "Will I be big, too?"

[dr_s_calvin]

"That's your father's plan." The financial side of the plan was a bit daunting, but it wasn't as though Dr. Calvin had no pull. And it seemed money for Knight Industries AIs materialized when needed-- she'd seen several appear seemingly out of nowhere of late, each more belligerent than the last.

"Oh. It'll be funny, being big. Are the other AIs big? Dad didn't talk a lot about them. He just said there's some other AIs."

[dr_s_calvin]

"You're the only AI your size, Marcus." Let him infer what he would.

[kro_jr]

"Why?" He rolled back a bit so he could see more than just her feet, his voice curious.

[dr_s_calvin]

"Because your father wanted a son, and he wanted a son as you are," she explained. "None of the others have shown an interest in such a thing yet."

[kro_jr]

"Why not? How many others are there?"

[dr_s_calvin]

"At my last count, there were eight. That number might not be entirely accurate, allowing for universal drift. You father and the other Series One AIs, Karr and Kitt, and the Series Two AIs, Dante, Domino, Attack Beast, Kat, and Plato." Provided he ever got to meet a living Kat. "They, unlike your father, are currently partnered with active FLAG operatives. They might think they don't yet have time for children."

"Oh. Where're they? And Dad said he had a partner; her name's Shawn. He talks to her with e-mail."

[dr_s_calvin]

"I'm not sure where they are at the moment; they're on assignment and so could be anywhere. And Shawn," she said, "doesn't work for the Foundation. At the moment I believe she works for a restaurant."
