A week of it

 ...music that is.

last Sunday I spent all day at the Town  Hall rehearsing and then performing a whole jazz mass and some other cool songs for my youth choir. they had a great time and and singing  was amazing.

Monday night saw the first gig of the week. The Decemberists supported by Blind Pilot.  Absolutely fantastic.   Colin Meloy has such fantastic presence on stage and he is just lovely.  Here are a couple of songs for ya:

Tuesday saw the second gig of the week, and I was glad that this one was a seated venue, as my back was really bad after standing for 3 hours the night before.

Tuesday's gig was 10cc, the old 70s pop-rock band. I have seen them three times now, and although they pretty much play the same set each time, it is still fantastic to hear them play live.  Here's an old favourite for ya:

10cc - I'm Mandy, fly me

Wednesday I crashed, so the next gig was Thursday, back at the Town Hall, where iI had been singing on Sunday.  This time it was to see Iron and Wine supported by Daniel Martin Moore.  Iron and Wine, who I like very much, surprised me, as they were more jazzy than I was expecting, and they did go off on some mad jazz improv stuff.  A bit harder to take than other gigs (a bit more artsy, experimental), but interesting nonetheless. The real treat for me was discovering Daniel Martin Moore, who reminded me very much of Nick Drake and was superb.  SO he made the night for me by far.  Here are a couple of songs from both bands:

So, all in all a very good week for immersing in live music.  Just fantastic.  ot a few more tickets for other dates coming up, but this will be hard to beat!

It is my son's 7th birthday this weekend - can hardly believe he is going to be 7.  So, onwards and upwards!  We are having a cinema party followed by pizza hut, so he will be happy.
