Well now....
It's all coming together quite nicely.
My singing teacher has said I can bypass Grade 4 and go straight to Grade 5 (Trinity Guildhall) Singing exam later in the year. I have been working on a number of pieces, in different styles and genres, and am enjoying finding out how flexible my singing voice can be.
I have just been appointed conductor for a local youth choir, for kids aged 8-16, although the youngest is 6 and the oldest is 18! This is going to be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to working with the young people, and as it's for fun I'll not have to be 'teacher' but more of a leader/role model/guide.... first name terms and all that informal stuff. I have an accompanist too so we can play around with different tunes... Going to a Bob Chilcott singing day with this lot too in March so that will be a good bonding/getting to know you sorta day. Not worked with teens before, so this will be a new challenge. Mostly girls, so I am hoping this will be OK.
I got my music through today for my next conductor training course. I am now working on Intermediate 2, which is a big jump from Internediate 1 which I did in the summer and in November. I have a 15th century latin piece, in 4 parts, which I have to teach unaccompanied... with nothing more than a tuning fork for company.... Te Domine Speravi by Josquin Desprez (1440 - 1521). Gulp!! The other piece I have is a folk song in 4 parts, and is one I know well and have sung before... but not taught or conducted it. Again, all unaccompanied... Thankfully I know i have 2 very good male voices in my group - not sure who the other girls are. I am going to London for 2 nights, and will be staying in a hotel in Victoria, which is very exciting. Can't wait!
My school choir are coming on very well, and we'll be ready for our concert in March, and the show in April... I have over 40 now, so we can do lots of rounds and parts and it sounds great!
I am becoming a little bit indespensible in my a capella group, which is good, but it also means it will be harder for me to leave... if I find something more interesting. No matter, I am challenged, and it is good to be needed, rather than just one of many in a crowd...
So, all in all I am very pleased with myself.
Family passports have arrived for our trip to the States.... apart from mine which was rejected. Gah!! The photo does not meet their requirements.... well, it was a ghastly photo anyway, so I can now get some decent ones taken. More money though!
