Rodney was torn from his thoughts when they arrived home. Even from here he could smell lunch and was grateful that Radek had brought Rachel into the group. Not only was she a wonderful woman and fantastic in bed, she could cook.
As soon as the doors opened he followed his nose to the kitchen. {Shenzi, I smell food.}
offworld,

carson,
me,
dinner,
food,
rachel,

He held the beer out of the way as Carson kissed him; it wouldn't do to spill good beer. Rodney wished Carson would do more but knew that was futile hope at the moment so settled for rolling his eyes at Carson's jest. {Isn't that against doctor's orders?}
Rodney watched Carson leave then turned to Rae. {So. Food?} He took the silverware and her drink with him as he headed out to the dining area. He helped her take her seat and as he took his own, something hit Rodney with the force of a sledgehammer.
Dear god, he was domesticated.
He forgot all about that horror when he took his first bite. The moan he gave was practically orgasmic, as was the look on his face. {Oh my god this is good!} Rodney then proceeded to inhale the rest of dinner, pausing only to speak.
{Good, good. If you want we can go down to the concert hall tomorrow, maybe, and practice? I haven't been there in a few weeks, what with the imminent threat of death and destruction lately.
{Waitaminute. Low fat and low sodium? I thought you guys were just cutting out the caffeine!}

{Glad you like it. Sure, that would be wonderful. And, I've got a surprise for you when we're done with lunch.}
Rae smirked at him. {Yes, that's a common diet, apparently, for stroke and heart attack survivors And you should probably know that the lunch you just sucked up like an Oreck vacuum on a bowling ball completely conforms to the restrictions. So see? Your food *can* taste good and still be good for you.}

Rodney was just finishing the last bite when she dropped the bombshell. He froze, fork halfway to his mouth, and just looked at her. {What?} He peered down at his fork, eyes squinted. {Seriously? Huh.} Then he shrugged and finished it off. Hey, it was food and it tasted good. If food could still taste good without the fat and salt, he wouldn't complain; the caffeine's what he had a problem with.
He wiped his mouth with the napkin then looked at her. {So...what's the surprise? Or was that it?}

She got up and took his plate. {Go relax on the couch. I'll put this in the kitchen, then give you the surprise.} Rae smiled softly at him. She quickly put the dishes away, then returned to the living room. Rodney was sitting on the couch, his beer on the coffee table before him.
{close your eyes until I tell you to open them.} She saw him smirk. Little did Rodney know that it wasn't what he thought he'd be getting... His eyes closed and Rachel quickly took her fiddle case off the nearby self and set it on the dining table. A couple metallic snaps, and it was open. She'd already tuned it, not long before he came in. A quick twist and the shoulder rest was on and her bow ready and taut. She checked to make sure his eyes were closed, then launched into the one piece of classical music she did know. A violin concerto solo by Bach...

Rodney watched Rae for a moment then grabbed his beer and went to the couch as instructed. He took a sip from the bottle before setting it on the coffee table. Smiling, Rodney closed his eyes and relaxed. The metallic snaps made him frown, puzzled, but the frown quickly melted away as Rae began to play.
{Oh!} It took all his willpower not to open his eyes because this was...wow. She was good. She was very good. {Beautiful...} He was swaying on the couch now to the music. Rodney normally didn't listen to strings, but Rae was...she was amazing. And artist.
Rodney melted into the couch as he let the music flow through him.

{It's the only classical piece I can do. Grandmom liked it... I'm much better at the fiddling.}

He rocked them gently to the remembered music, humming softly.

{So I understand the boys are going to show you the jumper repair bay tomorrow while I have dinner with Carson. Make sure not to wear them out....}

Eyes closed, Rodney spoke softly into her ear. {They are? Hm. Should be fun. Do I need to keep them out especially late while mommy and daddy play?} He didn't bother trying to hide the amusement in his voice.
{I'll try not to let them ravish me too badly. Last thing I want is for Carson to yell at me for over...} He trailed off as what she said finally sunk in.
Rodney stepped back and spun Rae around in his arms, holding her at arms length, concern written over his face. {Are you sure?} He brought a hand up to cup her face. {Can you...do you...I mean...well?}

He turns her to look in her eyes. Rae is touched by the concern he shows for her being alone with Carson. {Yes, Banzai, I'll be fine. I can certainly do this. And it's just dinner.}

Rodney nodded at her reassurance. {If you're sure. Anything happens, however, you comm me. Okay?}

{Okay. Do I get to yell at the minions or am I stuck with simply instant messaging them to death?}
He watched her go, marveling at the contentment he felt. He'd felt this with the others, to an extent, but it seemed different with Rae in a way he couldn't define. Maybe it was because she was a woman?
Rodney shook his head to clear it then headed to the study. He had minions to berate.
