Finally, the moment, you've all been waiting for... AN UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!

Sep 05, 2004 11:25

Well, after a month or two of negligence, I've decided it's time to update this journal of mine. Well, the oval office has been moved from Shelby Twp. to East Lansing (not the Governor's mansion im afraid, though I think I'd make a better Governor than Jennifer Granholm... hell an armadillo would make a better Governer then Jennifer Granholm...). That's right folks, I'm a proud student of Michigan State Univerity now [course, all the ppl who read this prolly know that already...]! But am I any old student? No no no, the President can't be any old student... (if I may blow my own horn for a second) I happen to be a member of the Lyman Briggs School of natural science, the MSU Honors College, and, not a freshman, but a first-year sophmore! (Not sure how that last one happened... oh well, who am I to complain?) So let me bring all of you wonderful people up to speed on my boring little life...

My classes at MSU are AWESOME, and the professors are even better! I am currently taking Multivariable Calculus (III; MTH 234), Into to Political Science (PLS 200), Abnormal Psychology (PSY 280), Lyman Briggs Chem I lecture/lab (LBS 171/LBS 171L), and Campus Band (MUS 116... thanks Mandy :) ). Homework has been heavy (mostly reading) so far, but managable. To give a simple example, the first day of Political Science, I had to read the first 48 pages of John Casti's Paradigms Lost, a very good work but soooooooo dense I had to read most paragraphs twice :(. Each class seems to have quizzes and like 2-4 tests, and thats IT. But hell, that was pretty much the way MST was, so I think it shouldnt be a problem (I thought that damn program would come in handy :) ). As for my Professorial Assistantship (where I will be working in the lab with some Natural Science professor and getting PAID :) ), I haven't heard a word yet, so they should expect some pissed off phone calls in the next week or two if I don't hear from them!

Life at MSU has been great as well. I've met up with some old friends and made lots of new ones. Scott is the best roomate ever, I knew that was the right choice there. I've hung out with Mandy alot; bless that girl for putting up with me, my bad jokes, and my boring stories all the time :)! I've hung out with Joe Manzella (VOTE his mom in for Shelby Twp. trustee November 2!; we went to a meeting of the College Republicans the other day. Good meeting, but they seemed to want people to do things akin to door knocking. I thought, 'that isn't what I'm about... more of an administrative role; you know, delagating authourity and such...', but it was good to know there were a good number of conservatives at MSU. I thought it was a hotbed of liberals, but it turns out the two election groups, Students for Bush and Students for Kerry, have about 2000 and 150 members, respectively! WOW!

As for my residence hall, Holmes Hall is pretty good. It's not one of the most hopping places on campus to be sure, but the people are nice and friendly. Mine and Scott's room (413 East) used to be tripled (where we had a third roomate), but Mark was really cool and we wanted him to stay when he had the option to move out, but he decided to stick with his new placement, but it's all good. Our room seems to be the place to be on 4 East Holmes, it is a rare occasion when theres less than 5 or 6 people in or right outside our door! But it's, good (and I'm glad) that people feel welcome in our room, cuz that's really how I think it should be: a relaxed, casual atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.

With regard to my music, I have joined the concert band [in my opinion] of MSU, Campus Band. There are two directors, a man and a woman, who seem nice enough. The one director, Dan, said we are an amateur band. He said that its misconstrued that amateur means sub-professional, etc. but he said it comes from the Italian amore which literally means love but in this case refers to playing because you just enjoy playing, which I found to be a most profound statement. They had us fill out a form listing some of our expierence with instruments and music. I listed trumpet, flugelhorn (which I played in Jazz Band for a couple songs), and tuba (which I did play for a semester in 9th grade at Malow JHS). Unfortunately, I got an e-mail saying I would be playing the tuba in Campus Band :(!!! So I e-mailed back saying I wanted to play trumpet and they agreed (luckily :) ). So on tuesday I have to play an "audition" which is nothing more than a simple scale. I plan on playing a minor scale 3 octaves high, possibly doing some cool triplet pattern or something :) (I'm such a showoff :) ). But like Mandy's in it (she got me to sign up in the first place) and Paul from MST, so it should be pretty fun. Plus, it meets once a week and attendance and participation = a 4.0 and 1 easy credit! So it's a win-win situation, in my opinion (I had just better get first chair with solos!!!)

But it is currently Sunday September 5th and I am sitting here in my home office, back in the Twp. for the weekend. Since it was Labor Day weekend (the university is closed tomorrow), I figured it (and a lot of other people did, too) to stop back home for a couple days. It feels different, being back in the Twp., almost like it's not quite as much home as it used to be. Sorta like I now consider MSU home as much as I consider Selby Twp. home. It's an interesting mix of emotions I guess. I'm going back to East Lansing on the 6th (tomorrow) so if anyone wants to see me, lemmie know!

So, in summary, I love my University, I love my classes, I love my professors. My social life is good, and all my friends are fantastic people!

I just need a woman!!L!O!L!! (any takers? ;) )

Until next time,
-ZAZ
