I do believe that I am my brothers' keeper. I believe in charities, community service, social welfare providers. This does lead me to have socialist leanings. Universal healthcare, social security, scholarships; these are all things to be worked towards, and sacrificed for.
It's beautiful when these things are done voluntarily, out of the goodness of people's hearts. But then there are times when I start wondering about how much easier it would be to provide these sorts of things if the people were required to. I mean, it's for the greater good, after all, that everyone have access to healthcare.
So we pass laws requiring that. People can afford to give to the greater good. And then the people in charge could probably make service involuntary. After all, we want a cleaner environment for everyone's good.
We could then go into other countries and spread our system. I mean, if our system is good, it should be better if more people followed it.
And so the farther down this chain of thought, I find fascism and imperialism. And sometimes I don't know how bad that is...
This is my shadow. This is one of my dark sides. It doesn't mean that I should change my beliefs. These are good and noble things, but they can be taken too far. I just need to watch for that step too far.
