Mac Sucks

.

Ok...I know I'm taking my life into my hands when I post this, because out of the 4 people who read this ever-dwindling LJ, 3 are Macintosh Fanatics. But I have to share it...because it's the cleverest, funniest, most brilliant parody of the MacCult that I've ever seen. Ok - so it's the only parody of the MacCult that I've ever seen, but it's ( Read more... )

I use both platforms on a daily basis, so I will not go so far as to cast thee out of 'teh circle.' :)

It's not a bias issue for me. Having a lot of experience using both, the Mac is a lot more reliable and capable of handling my creative endeavours. Hell, the Mac I am typing on at this very moment is well over six years old now and still chugging along.

Apart from the very rare crash, I've had no problems with it.

I can't say the same about the PC. Of the three PC's I use at work, I've had to replace a total of: 4 Motherboards, 2 Firewire Cards, 2 Video Cards, 6 Mice, 1 keyboard, 3 power supplys and 2 fans. As for software, I've had to reinstall or reconfigure Windows more than three times, repair the registry on a regular basis, deal with more crashes, spyware, virus and software/data corruptions galore.

I've had the G-4 Mac at work for the same amount of time and put it through the same amount of daily abuse. The worst thing I've had to do on it was to reinstall Final Cut Pro because I accidentally erased some vital program files.

So, for me, the Mac works. Now, that doesn't mean that there aren't problems with Macs. No system is 100% perfect.

Guess the lesson in all this is to not cast stones. In the end, my platform sucks, your platform sucks, so let's just cut the bullshit and all go for ice cream. The world will be a happier place! :)

Well, also just judging from the system he's holding in the video it's a pre-OSX system which, from what I understand, had its share of problems. Although, I haven't had problems running under 9.2....

Agreed. That appeared to be one of the early iMacs during the "transition" and return of Steve Jobs. I'm still using the graphite DV iMac from 2000, actually running 10.3 quite nicely!

9.2 was pretty stable! I held off on OSX for a couple years because it ran so well.

*sob* Isn't there anything to validate my reason for stubbornly holding on? Anything?? Anything at all???

Oh yeah! Right! I can build one for less than $100!

"Oh yeah! Right! I can build one for less than $100!"

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

You could probably build a 486 for that much. Heh.

486? See now, that means nothing to me. I'm Mac-Impaired, remember? Is that a jibe? A rib? A good-natured poke at the idjit? All I know is that I built a PentiumIII for the boy for $78.53.

Of course, it SUCKS. Not that I'll tell you that, of course.

A 486 was a PC chip that existed before the Pentium chip debuted.

Anyway, it's good to see ya back, Dr. P! :)

BTW, how's the next chapter of Fantastic Stories coming? Not that I'd ask you, of course. Hehehe. :)

Ah...see...that's because you're so much older than I am. I can't remember back to when I was a three-year-old. :P

My bit of the FA? Erm...ya...well, you see...uh...I was out driving my old pick-up truck on Farmer Gagget's back forty, and there was this eerie light that came out of nowhere and started hoovering over me, and....

But I digress. I'm doing a little research for it, and it hasn't quite come together yet. I can't be imprecise, you know. I have to have my Sciency stuff correctamundo.

HEY! You're the guy to ask! I need a miniDVD-WR formatted to a Sony Mini-Cam. Who in this town does shit like that? And by Thursday? Any suggestions? You're the closest "in the know" guy I...erm...know.

Damn aliens, I swear. Well, research away! You're well worth the wait.

Just to be clear, are you asking if you can have one of those half-sized DVD-RW discs transfered to a Sony Mini DV videotape?

Is the footage on the DVD in a finalized (in other words, complete with menus and such) or does it contain raw footage?

Those pint-sized discs are sometimes tricky to work with, but it may be possible given more info.

If I can't do it, you may want to see if Expressions In Video can handle it.

EIV's number:
(512) 469-7675

Let me know! :)

Ya...the little half-pints. But I have to have it "formatted" or some such crap so we can shoot on it - there's nothing on it right now.

I've never heard of formatting a blank dvd-wr, but I've never had to use this equipment before. I've called around, but no one seems to know just what the hell I'm talking about.

*sigh*

I think it has to be formatted on a sony mini-cam, and I have a feeling that NO ONE uses that camera any more. Well, no one that matters, anyway. :P

I'll call EIV. I didn't think you guys had a Sony Mini-DVD Recorder, otherwise I would have braved running into Jerry or Rosemary...it's kind of awkward when you meet someone from whom you quit. Yeah, that sentence was structured all bizarro. It's late. Sue me.

Thanks for the EIV possibility. I'll call them tomorrow.

Ewww. Sorry to hear about your dilemma! The reason why most people don't know what the hell you are talking about is probably due to the fact that the whole DVD camcorder idea was a dismal failure.

It was good in theory, but very piss poor in design, execution and marketing. I won't bore you with the details though since it would take awhile. Hopefully, EIV will be able to hook you up.

Can understand the awkwardness, but I wouldn't have made you come in. I'd say we should have met for lunch or something. Heh.

Anyway, good luck, T!

Which is PRECISELY why the college uses it. What is it about educational facilities and crappy equipment? You'd think they would know better. I mean, they are educated.....

Thanks for the help.
