Con Trite

I'm reading a book that I must share with anyone who wanders into this Blog.

It's called Bimbos of the Death Sun by Sharyn McCrumb.

McCrumb usually writes Mystery cozies, and since I'm not into that style I would not have found this book if it hadn't been for a little old lady with her finger on the pulse.

"This is an odd title," I said to the 80-ish woman behind the counter who had turned in the book.

She studied me for a moment. "Have you ever been to a Con?" she asked, a smile playing on her lips.

"A what?"

"A Con. You've never been to a Con?"

"Oh!" I replied. "You menn like a Sci-Fi Convention! I did...um... once.

"Then you have to read this," she beamed. "It's a hoot."

And it is. I would even go so far as to venture that it's a hoot AND a holler.

It's a bit like that '99 film Trekkies, but with a little more love. Some have vilified Bimbos of the Death Sun as an insult and a slap in the face to any and all Con addicts, but it's humor. It's comedy. People should be able to laugh at themselves more.

After all, if you can't find the humor in things you become nothing more than a mindless zealot. And we have enough of those already.
