mmm, k, well

After long reflection and turmoil within myself, I came to the conclusion that OB/GYN really is what I've enjoyed most. Several factors came into play here that I did not anticipate. When I finished OB/GYN, I became exceedingly anxious that I would not be scrubbing in on any surgery cases for the rest of my life, that was a very depressing thought. Even on my last day of Obstetrics I stayed late to just one more C-section. I guess I have been denying my interest in surgery to myself for a while. I've always admitted that it has been my favorite part of medical school, but I think I thought I could be happy not doing it as well, which I don't think is the case anymore.

So, then, why not go into a respectable and impressive field like General Surgery? Well, as a student who rotated through general surgery for 3 months, I realized that the patient population is not all that great to deal with. This is a vast generalization, but the patients are general surgery are older and sicker. In OB/GYN cases, obviously ppl having babies are not that old, and even the GYN cases usually involve younger women who are gonna recover and benefit from the surgery more.
Anyways, I'm applying OB and hopefully next year at this time I'll be delivering babies.. just like Dr. Huxtable...
