"Planet Parade".

Mar 24, 2014 11:13

I haven't posted a nice SHINY image series in some time - here is a parade of spring planets.

Jupiter and satellite Io in transit.

If you look closely, you'll see the Great Red Spot rotating out of view and the satellite Io (against the lower or southern equatorial band as a tiny round spot) and its shadow.

Mars is Back!

Coming up in late evening is a very bright "star" - the planet Mars!

Visible on this image are wispy cloudy areas, the northern polar cap (NPC) - at the bottom of the image, and the dark albedo feature - Sinus Meridani - aka "the pipe" in the upper center.

Saturn, the Ringed Beauty

Saturn's rings continue to open up, and will be at their max in 2015.
