In tribute to the most famous dictator of antiquity (he NEVER was an Emperor) and perhaps the Greatest Roman of all time, I give you Caesar's Comet Coin:
Over the years, I've written several articles on Julius Caesar, his
funeral games comet and great assasination
attempts and their outcomes. Today, I picked up another interesting coin - this time of
Alexander the Great. It is also an 'astronomical coin' of sorts - note the small crescent on the reverse to the Left of Zeus.
(note the crossed legs of Zeus - this indicates the coin was produced after his death. Parallel legs on Zeus = he was alive at the time of the minting.)
Alexander died young, he was only 32 years old. There are several theories as to how he died, and assasination has never been ruled out.
