The Weekly Shiny

Nov 12, 2009 11:04

Not much in the way of SHINY these days, however I did get a chance to image Mars in Shemp's C14 setup. The atmosphere wasn't too jumpy that morning, so there is a fair amount of detail seen in the images.

Mars - Morning of November 7, 2009

Scope used: Celestron 14-inch at f/27.5. DMK monochrome camera + R, G, B and Ir filters.

The bright Northern Polar Cap is easily visible at the bottom of the image. The large 'Africa' shaped dark region jutting down near the right limb is called Syrtis Major. The RGB version is closest to 'true color' and best shows ice and cloud formations, while other filter combinations reveal more detail in the dark regions.

My God, it's full of Stars!

The globular star cluster M22.

(80mm Vixen APO at f/7.4, Canon XS at 800 ISO, 25 x 1 minute exposures).

OK, you all know the drill. The Shadow Kitty is awaiting her tasty kitty treats and skritches.
