Dear friends who are better versed in such things than I:

Adobe Lightroom or Apple Aperture?

For context: I have been shooting with a DSLR in jpg mode for about 1.5 years now.  Mostly I’m looking for something that will let me (a) process a ton of photos quickly and painlessly and then upload them to flickr, and (b) let me quickly correct basic stuff ( Read more... )

How about spelling out exactly what you mean by "process"(ing)?

If you are just wanting to do a quick edit scan to weed out unwanted photos, some quick retouching involving cropping, rotation, white balance, sharpening, and red-eye reduction and then push the results to flickr -- Either package is going to be a complete overkill for what you want to do and a waste of $$$.

Yes, iPhoto is a pedestrian product and not all cool looking like the big boy applications. However, its free, and may suit your needs.

There's also Adobe Elements, again maybe a little pedestrian, but worth looking into. (Trail versions are available.)

However, completely understanding the need for wanting overkill, I'd have to recommend Lightroom.

PS. Take mr_privacy's recommendation - SWITCH TO RAW mode. You may need to do some additional post-processing (sharpening seems to be pretty common), and you will not be able to cram as many photos onto the CF card but its well worth it.

There will be some additional detail present in the image since there's no pixel lossage due to JPEG compression in RAW mode.

Sorry, I should have made this more clear. Currently, I'm shooting in JPG and using iPhoto to sort, catalog and correct. I'd like to convert over to shooting RAW (for all of the assorted reasons cataloged here), and can rapidly see myself approaching the point where I'd be straining iPhoto's organizational capacity, so I'm trying to figure out what the next step is.
