After getting off shift, Wilson had headed back to the apartment with Aziraphale and finished the last of their packing. Most of it was already done so it was just a matter of gathering up the gingersnaps the angel was bringing along and also the small cooler of snacks for themselves, Blair and River on the ride up ( Read more... )

Blair grinned at the two of them as he arrived, carrying his backpack and sleeping bag. "I made car bingo games during the protest!"

Blair was probably not the only bouncy member of the party, as the angel was quite obviously very much looking forward to the trip. Whether that was because he was excited about meeting Wilson's family, or simply because he was happy to be going for a ride in the M3, was up for debate. But he practically beamed as he sat next to the young doctor, hip to hip, and peppered the man with questions.

"You're quite certain we shouldn't have brought along some food to contribute? A pie or something? I could have made more biscuits, you know. Did you pack the wine?"

When Blair approached, he gave the young man a bright smile. "Good afternoon! What's car bing?"

"This is car bingo." Blair said, handing over a sheet of paper he had divided into squares. The boxes were labeled with things like 'vanity plate', 'shirtless construction worker', 'bear'.

Aziraphale looked curiously at the little boxes. "Do you...expect that we'll see a lot of bears in New Jersey?" he asked. "And why shirtless construction workers? Won't they be awfully cold?"

"That's what makes them rare finds." Wilson intoned as he took Blair's backpack and sleeping back to fit them into the trunk.

"Are we going to play Slug Bug, Blair?"

River came running up to the car, carrying a small bag and a blanket. She gave Blair a quick kiss and grinned happily in greeting to Wilson and Aziraphale.

"Very cute vehicle," she said. "It doesn't fly, does it?"

"Well, technically speaking it's wheels shouldn't leave the surface of the road. In fact, it's specifically designed not to leave the surface of the road." Wilson said, with perhaps more than just a hint of pride for his beloved M3.

Trunk still open, he waved River to stash her stuff, smiling warmly. "I'm so glad you could join us, River."

"But sometimes it very nearly does seem like flying, when James gets into a good groove," Aziraphale added, with a teasing grin. "It's lovely to see you my dear. Shall we all get on the road then?"

Eager to get in the car? Now, why would you think a thing like that?

River placed her bag and blanket in the trunk. "No flying then."

Wilson rolled his eyes, affectionately at Aziraphale, then shared a wink with River and Blair.

"Everybody went to the bathroom?" He said with a twinkle in his dark eyes and then he pulled open the driver's side door, pushing the seat forward so that the two young people could clambour into the surprisingly spacious back seat.

"Turkey or bust!" Blair let out a happy cheer and clambered into the car.

Once the youngsters were comforable in the back seat, Aziraphale slid into the passenger's seat and settled happily against the soft leather. "Do you two mind some music?" he asked, flipping through the CD collection in the glove box, and feeling particularly happy to that he didn't have to worry about any mutation of the songs taking place.

"And there's snacks in that cooler," he added, turning to smile at Blair and River, and nod toward the cooler Wilson had packed up for them.
