“The key thing is to not get Ianto worked up over anything or angry, at least until we can figure out how to reverse what the alien did,” Jack said, sighing wearily.
“What exactly happened?” Tosh asked as she went over the bio-scans Owen had performed on Ianto when they’d returned.
Ianto gingerly touched the bandage on his arm. “We had finally tracked down that Feurian that came through the rift. Jack and I thought we had it captured, but it got past us…”
“And it bit you?”
Ianto nodded at Tosh’s question. “There’s something in their saliva that transmits their particular ability to their victims, as a defense mechanism.”
“I don’t see how sharing their ability with their victim is a defense,” Gwen observed. “Wouldn’t that put them at a disadvantage to whatever they see as an attacker?”
“I had Tosh pull what files we have on Feuerians from the archives. Their particular talent seems to be something akin to pyrokinesis and the victims have no way of controlling it,” Jack explained, handing the file to her.
“Pyrokinesis? You mean the ability to control or create fire using only the mind?” Tosh asked as she pulled up more information on her computer about it.
“So what’s so dangerous about that? All Teaboy has to do is not think about setting anything on fire,” Owen groused from his desk, looking up from the book he was reading.
“I’ve asked you to not call me that,” Ianto bit out at Owen, face flushed angrily.
Owen just laughed, flashing a mocking grin. “What are you going to do about it, set me on fire?”
“Owen…you might not want to taunt him,” Jack warned the doctor as Ianto stood up, intense stare fixed on the other man.
“Teaboy doesn’t scare me,” Owen said with a dismissive snort, turning his attention back to his book. “Always knew he was a bloody flamer anyway.”
The girls let out startled screams as the book in Owen’s hands burst into flames. “Oi! What the hell?!?!?” he yelled as he tossed it to the floor and looked at Ianto in shock. “What the hell was that for?”
Jack just laughed as he placed a calming hand on Ianto’s shoulder. “And that is why I said we shouldn’t get him riled up. Next time, it might be something more personal than your book he sets on fire.”
