Villains should prank super-heroes more often

A goofy little digression from FANTASTIC FOUR# 22, January 1964. Script by Stan Lee, pencils by Jack Kirby with awful klunky inks from George Roussos. Sue has just discovered that her powers unexpectedly include projecting force fields and turning other people or objects invisible. Naturally, she's a little giddy as she experiments with this. (Reed says to her, "You used to worry because you felt you didn't contribute enough to our little team! Well, I now suspect you're about to be the star member.") As Sue tries out her new abilities, turning the Thing invisible ("Now how much'll you take to keep him that way?" asks the Torch) the Fantastic Four suddenly get harassed by a lot of little nuisances..

Then the middle-aged matrons of the Women's Canasta and Mah Jong Society barge in to yell at Reed for conducting experiments during their annual tournament. After things settle down, Reed notices a pamphlet advertising a small deserted island off New Jersey for sale. Perfect. Off they go to investigate. As it turns out, it's a trap of course. The Mole Man has arranged the pamphlet to be sent and he hired those people to pester the Fantastic Four so they would be ready to look for a new location.

I have to say, I never suspected the Mole Man (a bitter and megalomaniac little twerp on his better days) had such a droll sense of humor...
