Captain Marvel Junior -- forced to bulk up

Jun 01, 2008 18:41

This struck me as pretty wry. It's from "The Out-of-focus People" in CAPTAIN MARVEL JR# 32, Sep-Oct 1945. A typical Mad Science gadget transforms people into caricatures of themselves and Junior becomes so over-muscled he's helpless. Aside from the fallacy of being muscle-bound (all the bodybuilders I've seen are more flexible than the average citizen), it's amusing that our boy in blue doesn't look all that grotesque by today's comic book standards. I'm sure I can go into a comics store and point out a half dozen superheroes even more exggerated than Junior here. And with veins popping out through their clothing, as well as teeth clench in the death rictus.Times change.
