That can't be the Earth! Go back in space and look again!
I know why art and movies and TV always depict the Earth with the North Pole at the top and with the New World showing. It's shorthand. People recognize it instantly, even though there's no reason why a spaceship wouldn't be approaching "upside down" or come tearing in straight for South Pacific. It's just that you would lose your audience for a second as they caught the difference, and to some extent the spell would be jiggled (if not cracked). Anyway, there are quite a few maps like these drifting around the ether, and studying them is a good way to shake up the ol' brain cells... kind of like getting up to stretch and yawn.
