Soft spoken with a broken jaw.

It was luck of the draw that Cameron had managed to get her hands on alcohol at all.

She'd met the redhead in the kitchen while he cut lemons, and after discovering he'd known Chase very well, she'd also persuaded him to let her have a jar of her very own backwater moonshine. Really, she'd been TRYING not to make the Southern jokes, but after a ( Read more... )

Greg had spent the day in the jungle, mostly fucking around, but looking at ants and flowers, too. Never knew when you might find something handy. Like...a drunk chick.

"Hey," he said with a nod and a wave. "Party of one?"

Cameron opened her eyes and looked up at him. He was way the hell up there.

"You wanna make it a party of two?" When she was drunk (or high, if the occasion called for it), her voice dropped a register or so, turning husky. "If you don't drink alone, people can't say anything's wrong."

Oh, man. Greg nodded, bugs forgotten as he took a seat next to her. "Is something wrong?"

"Nothing more than getting used to being here," said Cameron. "The whole getting magically transported across the island and facing dinosaurs didn't help." She held the moonshine his way.

He took it and held it to his lips, but couldn't make it past the smell. As gone as she was, it wasn't likely she noticed he wussed out. "I'm Greg Sanders. From Las Vegas, well, a while ago. How new are you?" he asked gently, handing the booze back.

"Allison Cameron, from New Jersey. Three weeks? I need a place to live, you know? I wonder how hard it is to build a hut..." She took another sip, and leaned back. "Las Vegas? What did you do?"

He was... cute.

"It's not hard. You put your name on a list and a bunch of guys build it for you," he said, offering her a sweet smile. "In Vegas I was a criminalist. I started in the lab, analyzing trace and DNA evidence, then I moved out into the field."

Cameron smiled back at him, the lack of inhibition making her own smile wide and bright. "That actually sounds... really cool." She pulled her knees up to her chest, settling back against the wall. "I'm an immunologist. I worked in a diagnostics department. So basically it was my job to ask if it could be lupus."

She laughed.

"It's never lupus."

Greg laughed along with her. "You sound like this doctor here. I make his painkillers for him. Hey, I think he's from New Jersey, too. Doctor House?"

Cameron's smile faded, abruptly. "Yeah. He's my boss. Or, he was. Until about three weeks ago. For me." She drummed her fingertips on her knees, smiling wryly now. "More like a couple years ago for him."

"Oh, man. Sorry. My boss is here, too," he offered. "Except he's not my bss and it makes it all..." he finished with a vague wave of his hands. "If it's any help, it does get easier when you've been here a while."

"It sucks," said Cameron, "because..." She crinkled her nose a little. "God forbid, I had a crush on him. Have, still, I guess." That admission deserved a good swig of moonshine, which she took. "Got him to take me on a date, and... it ended in a way pretty far from 'good.'"

She shrugged. "Did you try to date yours?"

"Uhhh..." Greg blinked. "No. No, First of all, he's older, and plus, not into guys. So, no."

And that mental image required getting past the smell of the moonshine and washing it away. Not unlike cleaning something with bleach. Him and Grissom on a date...oh, God.

"I, uh...dated other people at the lab, though. Just not...him."

Cameron turned a little pinker, her outing with the moonshine having made her cheeks a little rosy in the first place, and she giggled. "Oh, shit. Sorry. It's... it just seems like every guy..."

She hid her eyes with her hand, and then peeked up. "Sorry."

He laughed a little and shook his head. "No, it's okay. It sems like that, but it's not every guy here. A lot, but not all. Really," he explained, drawing his knees up just to rest his arms on them.

Cameron's smile returned, and she bit her lip, tasting the alcohol on it. "I keep wondering if this is some sign that I should have experimented more in college or something. Or if I'm destined to end up listening to my former co-workers talking about their boyfriends and owning a hundred cats."
