Kaylee gives Simon a slight smile, still trying to figure out the whole smirk and wink thing.
Though soon, Lee is ushering Simon out of the kitchen with the bags to show him where to put them and where to wash up. Even though, Simon didn't need it.....
Penny turns to her daughter and smiles. "I can handle it from here, lovey. Your ol'room s'all fixed up for ya. You run off and wash that flour off your face."
Simon follows Lee and once his and Kaylee's bags are stashed in the right rooms, he washes up and changes into something less formal, yet very much Simon-esque.
She kisses her mom's cheek. "Thanks, Momma. I'll be right back t'help though." And then she is skipping off.
It's a small house so the guest room is right across from Kaylee's old room. She looks at the closed door for a moment as if considering something. A soft sigh and she turns into her own room and closes the door to wash up and change.
Lee was done and back in the kitchen in his usual record time. He smiles at his wife and then starts to set the table.
"MmmHmm." mumbles Lee as he places the plates on the table. Course, his wife would know that him not giving a real reason meant something was on his mind.
Kaylee finishes washing up and brushing her hair. She changed into a sun dress and different shoes. She opened the door with every intent to go back to the kitchen but she noticed Simon's door still closed. She tilts her head and then walks over to it and gives the door a gentle knock. "You ok, honey?" she asks through the door.
Penny glances at her husband. "Speak your piece, Lee Frye," she says. "No need beatin'round the bush."
Simon smiles as he hears Kaylee. He opens the door, turning the warmth of his smile on her. "I'm fine. Just giving your parents a moment to talk about me."
"'e loves 'er, my dear." he states as he places the rest of the dishes on the table. "Can see it in 'is eyes. Gorramit, love, ain't seen shine like that since I seen myself look at ya. Though.....he's a bit pretty fer our Kaylee...." he walks over to his wife.
Kaylee giggles. "I bet they're sayin' nice things." she says encouragingly.
"Aye, she loves'im, too. It really matter that e's pretty? She found 'erself a nice, respectable man. E's nuthin like the boys 'round these parts, and that warms me."
Simon caresses Kaylee's cheek. "It'll be more of the 'is he really worthy of our daughter' talk than anything. Time neough for the nice things later."
Lee nods. "Yeah. Warms me, too. Just makes me think that maybe they ain't right. Boy seems opposite of our Kaylee....." he continues thoughtfully. He was just thinking out loud.
Kaylee leans into the caress. "How d'ya know?" she asks simply. "Done this before?" the last part was more of a playful tone.
Lee nods. He knew his wife was right. In a way, she was always right. "Yeah, honey, I reckon you're right. Ain't gonna not give th'boy a chance. He must got sumthin' if 'e's on Mal's crew." he states. "Can I help ya wit' anythin'?"
Kaylee nods and swallows her sigh of relief. "Well...I...I guess I can help ya get settled in or we can go see if Momma and Pop need any help."

"Well, th'boy seems nice enough," she comments to her huband, absently.
Simon, knowing that mom and dad need a moment or two to have a quick meeting about first impressions, takes a moment to settle into his room.

Simon shakes his head. "No, I haven't. I've seen them happen, though, only during dinner parties and with quite a few more people around."
