I've just finished my daily workout and looked in the mirror - I HAVE ABS! I mean you won't see me in the Cleo centrefold just yet, but it's heading that way. This is not quite end of week one of my six week plan, so woo-fucking-hoo

find anything suitable as a chin-up bar. grab it, and bring your knees up to your chest.. I found that that exercise is far more effective than sit-ups/crunches for muscling up the lower abdomen. At some stage you should be able to lean back and without "throwing" yourself in any way, put your knees between your hands - i know very few people who can do this and i don't know why.. i can do it anytime, though i've not exercised in years... perhaps because its a shift of balance exercise that hasn't so much to do with raw strength? I seem to have some natural skill with them.. *shrugs*
anyway, get a pushbike! they're great for cardiovascular and breathing, you have the option of working out like you're anywhere between strolling to sprinting, but with vastly less joint damage due to impacts. Also, they're very efficient at getting from one place to another, and if you consider them to be simultaneously recreational, exercise and practical transport you soon find yourself racing the traffic... ;) they're also relatively nimble, yet not nearly as accident prone as, say rollerblades or scooters (the number of bladers/scooterers i've seen annihilate themselves on very small rocks is frightening). After a while, you also get thighs of doom with a kick to match ;)
if ya do get one, i'll go ridin with ya ;)
funniest thing about losing weight through exercise is that it doesn't work. you lose fat, but net weight plateaus or increases due to muscle mass unless your diet is wrong. I know you know this well, but its an amusingly memetic mis-described process.
I'm over wanting to lose weight. My goal is now to put on weight, but to convert every little ounce of fat into muscle. In Canberra I had a pushbike, and got everywhere on it. My issue with it these days is that I'd need to have a shower everytime I get anywhere.
I tried that exercise, and can bring my knees up to my chest with ease. I did 20 reps, I did break a sweat but didn't hit that failure mark. I tried the leaning back bit, and although I did it I felt like I was throwing my weight a bit. Practice at distribution is probably the issue here.
i don't need the exercise in itself, but i do need the energy, motivation and appetite that it brings as part of the parcel.. my pushie has been rusting away under the house and i think needs some attention too :)
