With everyone gearing up for the BDO, I've realised how different my perspective on such events has become. It has been years since I paid for such an event. Livid, BDO, Homebake, Metal for the Brain... Since about 1997 I have attended all such events on a media, performer or volunteer ticket. And this year, I go as the manager of a performer.
From a managers standpoint I am finding dealing with the organisers a real pain in the ass, they are obviously grossly disorganised. But having being involved with the organisation and running of other major festival events, I understand the pressures they are under, so I'm cutting them some slack. Hell, I remember one 4ZzZ Market Day when I was still trying to confirm and satisfy artists the day before the gig. So it's sort of nice to just be able to tell them what we want and let them sort it out, even if they only come through with 80% of what I ask.
Now lets just hope BDO crew are as generous with free drinks for performers and managers as Homebake was....
Oh, and all you Brisburn folk MUST make sure to come to the Lillypad stage at 2030 to catch the most enticing and sensual burlesque performers on the planet, Lola the Vamp and Miss Lash.
