dr_dredd Dr. Jana Lindstrom stared at the envelope that contained her future. In it would be either a polite dismissal or instructions to join the Atlantis expedition. The xenopsychologist desperately wanted to go to Pegasus, and her work at Area 51 made her the best candidate for the job.
Yet she was afraid to open the damned envelope.
At first, things had gone well during her interview at the SGC. She gave a presentation that Colonel Carter had praised. She’d also met with Kate Heightmeyer and Carson Beckett, her hopefully-future bosses. (Dr. Beckett in particular expressed enthusiasm at her ideas; always a good sign.)
Then it happened. Carter was escorting her out when they met Dr. McKay and Colonel Sheppard. McKay and Carter had argued about something, and when Carter tried to introduce her, McKay had rolled his eyes and muttered something about “another dumb blonde.” Furious, she spoke without thinking.
“I’m blonde,” she’d said. “What’s your excuse?”
There was dead silence, then Carter’s lips twitched. Sheppard had grinned broadly and said, “I like her already.” But later, Jana was certain she’d lost any chance at Atlantis.
She sighed. No sense in putting it off any further. She whooped when she saw the envelope’s contents, though, especially the note from Carter.
“Congratulations to the only person who’s ever rendered McKay speechless.”
