*doesn't show any signs of waking up, his snoring gentle and even*

*comes closer to stare harder. She wants to wake him up but she doesn't want him to be mad if she does so she silently wills him awake*

*His snoring abruptly stops and he rolls onto his side. But he doesn't wake up.*

*She sighed, rather frustrated, and changed sides so she could continue staring*

*He's learned to sleep through most things. It's a survival mechanism when you work in the medical profession. He does wake eventually of his own volition.*

*Eventually she begins to get tired and decides to curl up on the floor beside the biobed and go to sleep herself*

*He nearly steps on her sometime later when he swings his feet to the floor.*

What on Earth-

*He freezes, his weight still supported by the biobed.*

*She was curled up in a ball on the floor, fast asleep, and using her arm as a pillow*

*Now it's he who debates waking her. But no one should have to sleep on the floor, he decides. Stepping around her, he reaches down to gently pick her up.*

The little girl jumped awake when he picked her up. She was not a heavy sleeper and the movement had alarmed her. However, when she saw who it was she relaxed a little. "You was sleeping. And I had a bad dream."

He places her down on the bed he'd just vacated and bites back the natural tendency to correct her grammar. "Why didn't you wake me?"

'Cause I'm not supposed to wake people when they're sleeping. Mama always said if I ever woke her up I wouldn't live to do it again. *She gave him a look that clearly said "are you trying to get me in trouble?"*

*What a terrible thing to say to a child. For a second, he looks truly appalled.*

You have my express permission to wake me at any time for any reason. I can't guarantee I won't be cranky but I can guarantee it won't get you in trouble.

Ok... *Though she didn't look entirely convinced* Well... I had a bad dream and I didn't wanna sleep in my room anymore. Too scary.

Your room was scary? Or your dream was too scary?
