Merry Christmas

Dec 20, 2008 08:27

Merry Christmas, everyone... I hope it brings you happiness.

Now then, to business. For Christmas, I promised to deliver Karte 4 of How to Save a Life. I fully intend to do that, but it looks like I won't be able to log on for the next couple of days, and since there are only 5 days 'til Christmas, my gift to you will be slightly belated. Sorry about that.

I will, however, be able to give you a sample, a teaser, if you will. This is the first section of Karte 4, though it is possible I may make a few adjustments here and there before the final version. It begins just as furiously as the last, and this is only the beginning.

But just two Kartes remain before the dramatic finale!

Cuts! Why must they hate me so!?
Someone, please tell me what I'm doing wrong... :c

Karte 4 - Fate  (preview ver.)

I sped like a madman back to the hospital, the pill bottle now stored in my briefcase in the back of my motorcycle. I had no time to lose; every second that passed was a second longer than Black Jack could wait. For all I knew, he was already dead.

When I reentered the city, traffic had begun to congest, cars lined up for blocks on end, cutting off travel down the road. I swore, gritting my teeth. Just how was I supposed to get around this?

Thinking quickly, I pulled off the road, hopping up onto the sidewalk using the speed I’d accumulated rather than stopping behind the rows of cars. People screamed and dove out of the way as I tore down the sidewalk, violating countless traffic laws.

Who was going to stop me? I was already regarded as a murderer, so why should a little traffic trouble on the side matter?

The stunt created chaos all around, but I hardly had the time to stop and apologize to the people who went running and screaming and dropping their bags and personal effects. The hospital, the goal of this insane ride, was finally in sight.

I pulled up to the front gates, again screeching loudly as I turned it sideways to stop the fast-moving vehicle. This time, however, I misjudged the distance, and ended up sliding straight through the sliding doors--which were open at the time, thankfully--nearly hitting several patrons, and into the front lobby, sliding to a relatively quiet stop on my side at the front desk.

I stood up and jerked off my helmet, throwing it aside and picking up my briefcase almost in the same movement before running off down the hall without a word to the stunned receptionist, patrons, and nurses. I ran past the elevators, deciding them to be too slow, and ran up the stairs, choosing to ignore whatever trouble my wake had caused.

I was panting hard and dampened by swea by the time I reached my destination and threw open the doors, my cool finally, completely lost. I felt as if I were in a movie, everything seeming too surreal and chaotic to really be happening.

The doctor on the other side looked as startled as the people from the lobby, maybe even more so. He froze in place and looked me up and down.

“Something I can do for you?” He asked, his voice shaky.

I stood there in silence, trying to calm my breathing and regain some presence of mind before continuing. It took several seconds of awkward silence to do so, but finally I managed to stride into the room, head held high, trying to act as if nothing had happened. Security, I reminded myself, would be here soon after my rather exciting entrance to show their appreciation for the show, and something told me they weren’t after autographs.

“Yes, you can,” I growled, approaching the considerably shorter man’s desk, “You are Dr. Goodman, aren’t you?

A/N: So sorry to end it that way! Such a tease, I know... But I hope you've enjoyed it. I've still got a few tricks up my sleeve.
See you after the holidays!”
