It's Tuesday, and there's more to do than I can even contain in my brain all at once.
We're having our Open House this Saturday (wanna come??? post a reply here!!!!) -- and if nothing else this house needs a good scrubbing. Of course I'm trying to figure a way to get another room painted in time. Right.
I have to go into the office today. The fish are ready for some food, I'm sure, and I need to (re)establish my presence on campus. That's a little tough right now, since the University has to tear up several offices (including mine) for some sort of repair. Apparently it's going to get really ugly, and all the furniture has to be out (I think I heard something about digging up the concrete floor???). So I can't move my stuff in.
As it is the fish are hanging out on an AV cart in the radio lab. Poor babies. I'm almost tempted to bring them home. Until I think about the logistics of moving a tank of fish, of course. Then that temptation fades into complacency.
Animals can be rather a pain in the ass. But we love them. Well, most of them. This weekend DD came to watch Jake for us while we were out of town. Thank god for that, because we totally forgot about what we were going to do with him!! And those fish had a weekend feeder....but I'm going to have a hard time eating my breakfast this morning thinking about how hungry they must be now.
I need to remember to go to the bank when I go "to town." Also, I'm pretty sure I'm about 53 days behind on getting my driver's license changed address-wise. Can I also get a haircut, for the love of a million split-ends?? And what about a Walmart trip. Can't go to town without one of those. Makes me wonder if I need anything from Rural King. A cow magnet? A trough.
Actually, a small trough might be good for the party. No, not for food, but for icing down bottles of water and beer. Hmmm....
I'm still working on the food plans for the party --
Any suggestions are welcome.
Not that anybody has read this far down into these disjointed ramblings.
Shit.
It's getting ready to rain.
I'm pretty sure, as spiffy as the new laptop is, it doesn't fair well in the rain.
I can hear Tim hammering in the chair leg caps for our dining room set (did I mention I got my grandparent's dining room set?? beautiful) so that the chairs will glide over the hardwood floors, instead of gouging them. A good plan overall, but one of the kajillion little details we need to attend before Saturday.
I should really go back and edit this post. I think I need a Dramamine from all the jumping, darting and weaving of the topics. But I'm not going to. Too many things to do. So I'd better go now, and figure out exactly how pulled together I'm planning on being today. Will I put on makeup? Will I brush my hair? Will I actually get to the bank, feed the fish, and paint the bathroom.
Dammit. I have grading to do today.
Ugh.
The quarter is almost over. I'm thinking the Open House should be a celebration of THAT. Sweet Jeeebus, I'll be glad when it's done. Of course, there's another quarter I'll be teaching before EIU starts. The quarter runs right to the beginning of all sorts of new faculty and departmental festivities. IF you can call choosing a healthcare plan and filling out I-9s as a festivity. At least the family cookout and the new faculty orientation should be fun. :)
Okay.
I just felt a drop.
Time to go.
Peace out.
