You never do know whose going to walk through the gates at Mount Vernon, and just today I found out one of those never knows. Turns out for the filming done at the beginning of the week (if I heard this right) one of the actors they had was in Cold Mountain. I've never seen the movie but I went off to try and find a picture of the guy and came up short. Never dreamed there would be someone there who'd done a movie I'd heard of. So there I was in the pressence of an actor and didn't even know it. (Happened once before when I started at Mount Vernon, only I wasn't paying much attention to the actress several paces in front of me) Life sure is funny.
Today was one of those where I'm all over seems like, went to the mill this morning to do my tour to be cleared, and then reported back to the estate for the afternoon. My tour went really well and even during it I managed to pull a cute something. I was standing on the stone floor (as it's called) and I was explaining how the mill stones over time wore down (like the sole of a shoe) and how they were sharpened again. We'll I get handed a tool (chisel) and then asked what did they use to do that? I'm holding up the chisel and say with a smile "this." My supervisor's reaction is the one I remember of being filled with laughter and "Sarah you're so cute." Where's a camera when you need it right? The rest of the day rocked back and forth between busy and calm.
