I just spent a few hours playing catch-up with my friends list. I'd let... um... about eleven days of posts lapse. Apologies to those receiving comments to posts a week and a half old.
Things have been busy around here. I've just transferred my position to another school, one that is within walking distance to my home. I've been at the old school for nearly five years, and the change came about rather suddenly, resulting in emotional panic attacks and much head spinning. I think things will be ok at this point, though. I got to go back Friday to say goodbyes and photocopy a letter I prepared for the families. One of them has already emailed me, and I've been promised Halloween pictures.
Of course, this is all concurrent to having to learn a new bunch of kids and the routes and schedules of their public schools as I am to be in charge of, among other things, transporting many of them daily. Thursday and Friday I did so with the individual who was vacating the position. Tomorrow, I have to rely on my notes and memory. I expect at least a week of stress before it starts to fall into place.
In addition to going to both schools Friday, I went to Borders for Educators' Savings Night and then drove over an hour straight from Crystal Lake to my hometown to meet up with Lowell, Ed, Abby, and ultimately Aldwin (old high school buddies and the fiance of onesuch) to catch the homecoming game, it being ten years out for most of us. Long sentence is long. Following the halftime show, truly the only reason to attend, we went out to eat together. The eatery had paper over the tablecloth and a cup of crayons, so we set ourselves to work. I started with a castle wall to fend off Lowell's pew-tanks, then set a harvester to collecting Tiberium. After decorating my throne room (I had a rug and tapestries, but my chair was still flanked by boulders), I successfully launched for Alpha Centauri and won. Also, there was a Blooper swimming about, and a cat was sleeping on my rug.
So, um, yeah. Busy night, busy week. I have slightly different hours at work now. I'll be starting at the same time, but without a half an hour of driving, I get to leave later. I'll be working later, but I get a ninety minute lunch that I can spend at home. Hopefully, this should work out rather nicely.
I still have some entries that I opened as separate tabs. I'm going to read through the comments of those and then start winding down my day.
Oh, and I bought the new Bioware-made Sonic rpg for the DS. I haven't played it very much as of yet, mainly due to being busy and not being stranded at work for my lunch breaks, but I like it so far. I don't think it will end up being one of my favorites, but it seems to pull together all of the various Sonic games' stories in a wonderful way. When game heroes (or family lines) have more than twenty separate adventures under their belts, things tend to get confusing or dropped altogether, but they've really made an effort to acknowledge everything, and I enjoy and appreciate that immensely.
