Well, I'm back boys and girls from my stay in Quebec. How many of you missed me?
....I think a tumbleweed just went through my room.
But all kidding aside, I had a really good time. Usually new years in Quebec is centred around my family, which is nice and everything, but I've always held the firm belief that New Years is about friends, not family. So, what made this New Year so kickin' rad was that my buddy Robin made it down for the New Years weekend.
My family went down on the 27th and he arrived via bus on the 29th. Shitkicking progressed from there when on the 30th, my uncle took us out barhopping Quebec style. Now the thing you have to understand is the part of Quebec that my relatives live in is the equivalent of the section of America the family from Deliverance lived in, and therefore bars in the Pointe Claire area are filled with mullets, toothless grins, neon vests, john deer baseball caps, and rubber rain boots. We went to the first pub, the Green Hornet, and hal;f the people there were bombed........at 2 in the afternoon.
After that, he took us to the local strip club. Now, you'd imagine that with family, this would be awkward. However, my Uncle James is more of a drinking buddy than a relative, so it was actually quite fun.
That night, we went on the official "Coors Light Barhop," an event that included access to 20 different bars and nightclubs in the downtown area. We hit up Medley, Club LaBoom, Peele Pub, and some other place that I can't remember the name of on account of intoxication. It was alot of fun, and after hanging around at Peele Pub (it was the cheapest place and had some very good looking chicks from McGill occupying it), we decided to call it a night and grabbed a taxi back to my Grandmother's.
New Years Eve saw us downtown once again, this time at a new Nightclub known as System, which had an open bar with the purchase of a ticket to gain entry. However, the bartenders rudely informed us that service wasn't free in Quebec, and thus every drink at the "open" bar came with a $1.50 mandatory tip. But $1.50 is pretty decent, especially since that covered ANY drink on the menu.
The Ball dropped from Times Square and we left the club at around 1:30 in the morning where Robin suggested that we go to another strip club. So we showed up to a place bombed out of our minds at 2 in the morning, where there was a $10 cover charge. You'd be surprised how willing you are to part with money when you're drunk off your ass and your hormones are raging.
New Years day was spent recovering from the past two nights, and we had a pretty chill family dinner. Today we drove back, and here I am in Toronto on my laptop, typing this all out.
Tomorrow I have to get my wisdom teeth out. I have a phobia about teeth AND needles, so this is like my worst fucking nightmare. Ah well, I've heard alot of stories about quick recoveries so I'm hoping other people's success will repeat for me tomorrow.
Providing that I'm up on my feet within the next two days, I'd love to see everyone before we all have to go our separate ways. I saw that there's a pub crawl for Carter people on January 4th, yet I'm still going to be reccovering that day and booze + Tylenol 3's = Nick Nolte meets Stacy Keech, so it's probably not a good idea. However, if anyone's free this weekend, we should meet up.
until next time.
