You know it's going to be a good day when you wake up and find a really good ass-shaking song in your inbox along with a sexy little e-mail from a very cute bartender. Today is definitely starting out well.
So the big marching band reunion weekend has obviously come to a close. I knew it'd be fun, but I had no idea it'd be as crazy as it was. Bandies really do know how to party, despite what you may have heard in the past.
Not only did I get the best arm workout on the planet [holding two 15 pound cymbals for hours is GREAT for the upper arms, I'm serious], but I got to wear a kickin yellow WILDCAT t-shirt in the parade. You don't know fashion until you've sported one of these babies.
I still know how to march. I still know how to do crazy cymbal moves. I still know how to crush on hot snare drummers with very defined calf muscles and perfect forearms. Didn't I swear off drummers after Matt? What am I thinking?!
Anyway, I got to see a lot of old friends that I haven't seen in years. Since exiting the womb, I have always loved to people-watch and this weekend was no exception. There's something semi-comforting in reuniting with old crushes from when I was a wee lass of 14, and seeing beer bellies and greying hair. One of the boys I was OMGSOINLOVE with back in the day was looking rough. And I LOVED IT.
I drank FAR too much for my liver's own good this weekend. You know it's going to be dangerous when Steve and I started on Thursday night and were at an after hours party until 4:30 AM. Who do I think I am? But I did win the unofficial best "YMCA-er" award on Sunday night, so you bitches better recognize.
But yeah, it's hard to explain to non-bandies the power of this sort of thing because a lot of people don't understand. In high school, practicing and performing were pretty much a full time job for us. I spent more time with these people than with my own family for five years straight, and to see them all again and to march down main street was absolutely phenomenal.
Call me a band geek....I already know. :)
