While pouring sugar into my tea, one of my students looked up and asked "what's that, Miss Frederick?" To which I promptly replied: "Cocaine." A split second later, I looked at him with incredulity and said "Sugar! Come on, what do you think I'm putting in my tea??"
This, a day after they laughed at me for stuffing my manatea full of loose-leaf chamomile which they looked at with skepticism.
"That would explain a lot," one girl said.
"The sad thing is," I replied, "it's not true, so it explains nothing."
My kids either have a lot of respect for me, or very little.
