Professor Slughorn,
Forgive me for being so scattered lately in returning your owls--or thanking you for all your assistance with the Hogwarts elves. Food for five is much more manageable than thirty. Even if we do seem to send quite a bit home with anyone we can possibly have contact with during the day. Our neighbours are quite pleased.
The ice sculptures, however, seem to be a bit...much. Particularly once they start to melt. I think perhaps I sprained my ankle on that last slip this evening, but we shan't tell Nymphadora that since I was holding Katerina at the time.
I didn't drop her though.
Quite pleased with that.
Any matter, I was wondering if perhaps you might be able to give me advice on a certain rather sensitive issue? Such as returning a bastard cantankerous house elf without causing great offence to one certain Malfoy? I know Father won't give a damn--he thinks it's utterly mad that the elf is allowed around his grandchildren in the first place as he's informed me more than once in the past two weeks. But, well, you know Draco. And I shouldn't care to offend. But really, the damned elf is driving me mad and Nymphadora finds him, in her words, rather bloody creepy, thanks. And Grendel won't stop growling at him.
Suggestions that you might have would be greatly appreciated. I can't ask Father--you know what a bloody mess he'd make of it, barrelling in the way he does. Something's bothering him of late as it is, but he's not speaking of it and refuses to any time I ask him. I'm not certain if you'd have any more luck, but perhaps he might speak to his former Head of House. If you might.
And do come by to see the twins soon, sir. They're quite taken with your laugh, I believe.
Thanks ever so for all your assistance as of late.
Regards,
Marcellus Dolohov-Snape
