We scaled her stoop first,
our knuckles lucky to have blood
we stole Safeway name tags
I was jose and you jill
your grandma passed in her sleep
and we slept upon her doorstep
for at least a week
waiting for our knocks to sound
like something she wanted to hear everyday
we knew the house smelt like everything we've sold
and It wasn't until the neighbor called it in
sirens be underrated alarm clocks
until they wake your soul
and the estate sale was worthless
she had already lost all that she had owned
so we crossed ourselves in her sheets
that we ended up buying from her
and we crossed our fingers
like i knew her, and you were
hospitalizing and holding tight
her coldest ankles
and her forgotten bones.
