WHO? Hara, OPEN!
WHAT? Astronomy class
WHERE? ... the Astronomy tower! Shocking, right?
WHEN? Midnight
It was a calm night at Hogwarts when Hara finally made her way up to the high Astronomy tower, riding the coattails of her fellow students. The air carried a bitter chill, one of the first signs of winter, but it was nothing to complain about. They were to be thankful, the Professor told them, her voice ringing out cheerfully, that there weren’t any clouds in the sky. Thankful that they would be able to see most of - if not all - the stars in the Northern Hemisphere.
Because wasn’t that just the most exciting subject in the world? Stars?
Judging by the occasional mutterings and groans around her, Hara knew the majority of her peers thought otherwise. It was, by all accounts, far too late for any of them to be learning anything. Especially when learning in Astronomy often fell along the lines of simply lying on your back and staring upwards at the black sky for long periods at a time. That or jamming your face against the optical lens of a telescope. It was positively thrilling.
Stifling a yawn against the back of her hand, Hara took her place by the edge of the wall and finally took the opportunity to glance skywards. It really was a spectacular night for stargazing. The moon was low in the sky and nearly full, casting an eerie glow on the entire school grounds. The clearly visible stars, some of which had likely been dead for years, continued pulsing from their various points in the sky. Were they real, or human, they would have been crying out for attention like the divas they were. Drawing the students in. Mesmerizing them with their radiance.
And just as Hara settled down under that blanket of stars, a quiet snore broke the peaceful silence. A loud thump followed, a vulgar word or two, a shrill giggle, and then the customary hushing noise from the teacher. The Gryffindor girl rolled her eyes and sat up at attention, waiting for the evening’s instructions.
Nothing ever changed.
