Prompt #5: "Apology"
Word Count: 236
Genre: Angst
Rating: PG
Warnings: None I can think of
Fandom: HEX
Character: Cassie Hughes and Thelma Bates
Summary: Sometimes sorry is never enough...
Timeline: At the end of S1E1

She sits on the now vacant bed, hugging the purple throw pillow. Of course, by now, she is out of tears. All night and all day, skipping class, teachers understanding. It’s not everyday your roommate, your best friend, your classmate… is found dead. Or as Cassie knew, sacrificed.

But it doesn’t make anything easier having her now dead roommate show up at her own funeral. A ghost - although Thelma detested the word - now haunted her. All she could do is smile and wonder how she could be the lucky one to have her friend back in some kind of form. It still didn’t make it easy to have the bed next to hers empty.

Cassie wanted Thelma know she was sorry. Sorry for everything she had gone through the last few days. Sorry for being dragged into the new life Cassie now found herself in. Sorry for her being the one who Azazael kidnapped and murdered.

“Sorry,” she cries burying her face into the pillow. Hollow words she thinks, but what else could she say?

Yet even as she tries to think of a better way to apologize for something she had no control over, arms encircle her. Pull her toward the once solid chest of her friend, sooth her messy hair, and fade into the soft words that Thelma speaks, lulling her into the deep sleep she had been seeking since Thelma’s death.
