so I started

my JulNoWriMo.

It's actually going pretty well, surprisingly. I've gotten about 4,000 words done today. That's plenty for the time being. I need to get started on summer homework and crap so it's good to start with a nice, comfy cushion in case I slack in future days. It's kind of hard to write though. I was originally going to write about a cheerleader who struggles with stereotypes. Evidently, my fingers didn't agree with that storyline so it ended up being a novel about swimmers, yay!

So far we've got El, who is pretty bad ass. Alright, not really. He's got a messy mop of light brown hair and a Roman nose that has freckles on it, and he's tan. I don't know if he's really tall. I think he's probably like 5'10", so average. Swimmer body, probably nice abs, but he's not like MODEL SWIMMER like Matthias Callaghan.

Anyway, El is the protagonist. His name is actually Elden, but when I was writing it I seriously could NOT think of a name for him. So I just nicknamed him El and it stuck. I kept wanting to change it but never got around to it, and then I finally just looked up names that begin with El for boys. Elden is what came up, because Elijah sounded too religious and I know a kid named Elliot so that would just be weird. Elden means "The Old Servant" which I now think is kind of fitting. I'll explain way later.

He's best friends with Sal (Salvador), who has blond hair. I'm thinking Sal is a bit on the shorter side, probably like 5'7". He's more buff though. Like he's a short, strong guy. He's pretty intuitive. Haven't really developed his character yet though.

And then there is Claire, who is friends with El but they just tease each other. El's kinda shy. He doesn't have a ton of friends on his swim team.

Lastly is the pretty Leigh, whose past with El I'm still trying to figure out. See, they were neighbors (lived somewhere down the street) and they used to hang out ALL the time. Inseparable. Think childhood friends. But by middle school they ended up in the wrong crowd (but different crowds). El became a "pot-smoking drunk boy" (in the words of Leigh's mother) while Leigh just ended up with really shallow friends. Shallow friends as in, "Leigh, you need a boyfriend. Hook up with blah blah blah. Oh that didn't go well? That sucks, we've got to ditch you now since you got dumped by a basketball player." Her friends were just really sketchy I guess. They were more into drinking than drugs (not that it's any better).

So far in the story I've mentioned the pot-smoking drunk boy but I haven't explained WHY Leigh's parents call him that. See, one day in middle school Leigh told El that she wanted to try smoking, so El brought some over to her house while her parents were gone. CHANGE IN PLANS  FOR PARENTS--they show up and the house is filled with the smell. El didn't have the chance to leave, so Leigh's parents catch him and they blame him for being such a bad influence on Leigh and ask Leigh, "Is this why your grades are dropping?" etc.

However, El's parents don't believe that El (that adorable, dark-eyed Christian boy) would ever smoke so they completely HATE Leigh's parents for slandering their son. Thus, they tell El to never hang out with Leigh again. Since Leigh is frightened out of her mind she doesn't talk to El for the rest of middle school.

But then high school begins, and this is when things get hot and heavy. Leigh gets in with the stoners just as El phases out of it. Leigh wants El, and she wants him like no other. She invites him over a lot when her parents aren't around (frequently--business trips, family health issues, etc) and they mess around. Neither realize what they're getting themselves into (a friends with benefits relationship) and El realizes that he's falling for Leigh.

Leigh doesn't want anything to do with it, though, so after they have sex she breaks it off with him. They still swim on the same high school swim team and stuff, but they don't really talk. It's awkward. Eventually they completely ignore each other.

This all changes at a swim meet (beginning of summer season, opposing teams). El still has feelings for her, but he doesn't want to recognize them or talk about them. He doesn't WANT these feelings. He wants Leigh but he doesn't want to fall for her all over again. He knows that going that way would be going into trouble.

But they haven't talked in a while, and time mends broken hearts. Especially when Leigh is trying to make hottie Matthias Callaghan jealous. See, sophomore year she had a fling with him. But he cheated on her. When he asked for forgiveness Leigh was like, "HELL NO, MANWHORE" and she slapped him. Matthias still saves his heated gazes for her though, but Leigh resists them. And that's when she sees El at the swim meet. She cheers him on, and to her glee he approaches her after her 50 freestyle.

Later she's overly flirty and invites him to her house (for old time's sake, of course). Leigh wants OLD TIMES back, and even though El does as well he kind of misses just the friendship. But his body warms for her and they're making out and they have sex (but it's not explicit, I only imply it. Because honest to godddd I do not want to write a sex scene when I've never experienced it).  Anyway Leigh pretty much convinces him by almost crying and he realizes that she needs him, but he doesn't understand why. He pleases her (OLD SERVANT CONNECTION OMG ) and yeah.

DUN DUN DUN.

Now El is back, at eight in the morning, and his mom is screaming at him. And then he goes to take a shower because he feels disgusting because of what he did (pity sex, pretty much).

ANYWAY.

So that's going well!

Boyfriend-wise, what the eff. I'm confused out of my fucking mind. I sent him a text this morning but he never replied. I'm probably just paranoid but I don't think that's good :/ and we didn't talk at all yesterday.

Gah I'm sure it's fine, but...
It sucks. I want to talk to him. Our conversations have grown sort of stale. I don't know what else to say though. Well hopefully he's at practice tomorrow and it's alright... I hope he's not avoiding me or something. I don't know what I did if I even did anything.

Now I have homework to do. yuck.
