So yea it's been awhile. Well life's been mostly the same...work and job searching. Which I'm really not making any headway in and as I've talked to several of you guys about that I'm thinking of just going back to school and going thru for my masters. I'm still job searching but after a good few interviews and just in general a lot of no response from anyone or from the thousands of applications I've sent into various companies I think I'm gonna have to face up w/the fact that things just aren't going the way I want it and get on with something new.

So now comes the ardous task of starting to look up and research colleges *again* and figure out what might work for me and thinking about having to take the GRE's, fun times indeed. So yea b/c the economy is in the toliet and currently I think a higher level of education is fastly becoming my best option for ever getting a job out there. So yea all that to look forward to.

In other news Halloween is coming up!! Yeaaaaaa!!! My favourite holiday of the yr...sadly I'm very behind this yr on my costume...it's either vampire or mad scientist...depending on what I can find a some thrift stores and whatnot over the next coming days. I've got some of both costumes...it just depends on what I find and what's less expensive b/c it's a toss up right now.

But I have carved my pumpkins and I have some pics under the cut of them.
Here is my "brothers" pumpkin...in that he picked the design out and then had to go back to school leaving me to carve it out...it's all good though I think it turned out nice Bubble Bubble Toil and Trouble...or you know something like that.

And here is mine I did a Howling Wolf

So in other news this weekend was pretty great Sat my family went to the State Fair which is always fun...did lots of rides, ate some great food and generally had a really nice day. Especially since it was overcast and rainy...reduced crowds, almost no lines, and it stayed cool.

Friday though was the big event for me...I went to my first concert since high school and I was freaking excited. It was for a band called Opeth *which none of you guys know them, so if you're bored w/my rantings skip this* I know it's not for everyone. I"m mostly writing this so I can have the fresh memories of this written down somewhere b/c I'd like to remember it. They are a 'heavy metal' band....that term really doesn't describe them right at all but hey I love them. They are more a progessive rock or progressive death metal, with elements of blues rock, folk and operatic sounds...a mixture of the typical growling vocals mixed w/clean vocals. I love the  mixture of the two types of vocals, b/c Mikael Åkerfeldt *lead singer* has a beautiful voice and mixs the two types of vocals beautifully.nbsp; And I really like the mixture of styles/elements they use in their songs...if it was just limited to 'heavy metal or death metal' I really wouldn't like them as much...but each song is different and they are willing to experiment and trying new sounds and I just love how they make it all these different elements and song types and put them together perfectly. They were introduced to me by my brother and I have really grown to love them over the past couple of yrs and they played at the Lincoln Theater this past Friday, it was a bday gift from my brother for us to go see them. They don't really come over to the US often, since they are a Swedish band...I think that last time was about 3 or 4 yrs ago and I didn't really know them then. And that they came to Raleigh much less the little Licoln Theater was just too good a deal to miss out....they sold out at the Theater...and they could have played a much bigger place and sold that out too. They are really big both in Europe and here... big as in the since of with the 'rock/metal' crowd for that crowd they are pretty huge. I must say I really liked the 'smaller' atmosphere of it and because it's all standing I was able to stay in the "pit" or the front area the whole time...which at the most I was 5ft to 20ft from stage at all times.

They had two other bands before them that sort of warmed up the crowd the first was Baroness which was sorta punk/heavy metal...they were pretty good, I think they had it a bit harder since they were the first to have to warm up the crowd and we didn't really get going till the second band...but you could see they were really trying and hell they did a good job. The second was High on Fire *support band for Opeth* another heavy metal group and they started to really get people going by then...we had some mosh pits going and crowd surfing by then.

When Opeth opened everyone went crazy I was up front at the time and stayed for about a song or so...but it was too crazy the crowd surge was insane plus some really tall dudes were in front of me so I could barely see...so I just went back about 10ft and had a great view...though I did always seem to be at the edge of the mosh pits it seems....which I must say are fun to watch. There is something very alive and insane about those things but it's also fun to push people around and the crowds were very good about picking people up when the fell and whatnot so it was pretty safe feeling. I think damn near everyone in the pit area ended up in one at some point...and can I also say it's fun to crowd surf people...don't know why...it just is. I can definitely see the appeal of 'metal/rock' concerts...as long as you have a good crowd they are a ton of fun *that's probably true of most concerts in general but not all of them do you get crowd surfing or mosh pits*.

Anyway Opeth was amazing...the songs were something else to hear in person and god do they sound just as good as they do on the cds *I always find it a risk that they aren't going to sound as good in person* but they do and the rocked the house. The lead singer Mikael Åkerfeldt was amazing and really has that charisma that you look for in the 'leading' band member and he's pretty damn funny and the rest of the guys just were crazy. It was great to just rock out to some of the songs and really get into the music, and they played a few of their 'softer' songs and the whole crowd would just sway with it. They played for a good 2hrs and were nice enough to also give us an encore after we chanted and stomped the floors for a good 5mins. I was just truely impressed with their music, charisma, and just all around awesomeness. Along with the other bands it was about a 4 1/2hr concert that left me with deafened ears, a grin ear to ear, and wanting to see them the next time they come around to NC.

Other than all that going on ....life has been well life. I really want cookies and need to sleep. Peace out ya'll!
