Over the next few weeks I'll be posting my list of favorites albums of 2009.
2009 was such a crazy roller coaster year. We lost many a great artists, Michael Jackson and DJ AM most notably, at least for me personally. But, it was also the year of many great new artists. The year of the Gaga, the Phoenix and the Snow. Which leads me to my pick for the number 1 album of 2009.
Miike Snow - Miike Snow
Miike Snow makes amazing electropop. The 'band' consists of the Grammy award winning Swedish production duo Bloodshy & Avant, who are responsible for creating my favorite Britney Spears songs, including Radar, Toy Soldier, Freakshow, Piece of Me, Freakshow, Chaotic, and most notably Toxic, and Madonna's How High and Like It Or Not. The duo also produced Kylie's Speakerphone and Dangerous Muse's Homewrecker, which is the title track off their newest album. They are really incredible. Even while they have created all these great songs for the vixens of Pop music, they still maintain their own distinct sound when recording under Miike Snow. I love music that sounds mystical and magical. Most notable tracks include Animal, Burial, Silvia, Black & Blue, and A Horse Is Not A Home.
There have also been some great work as far as remixes go of Miike Snow, including great mixes by DJ Mehdi, Crookers, Fake Blood, Punks Jump Up, and Treasure Fingers. Most notably being the Treasure Fingers mix of the groups first single Animal. First time I heard this song was out and live in a mix by Pauly Crush and I immediately was in love with the mixes funky bass line and quirky vocal treatment. Miike Snow remixed Vampire Weekend's The Kid's Don't Stand A Chance also, and it is really amazing.
