Recently it has come to my attention that several councils in Sydney, Namely Fairfield, will impose fines of up to $1100 for spitting on sidewalks or in public.

Finally a council has the balls to stand up and take action. Now if only they could impose tough penalties like this for other anti social behaviours such as graffitti and tagging buildings, trains and whatever else they can lay their spray cans on. I read an article yesterday that graffitti on trains is up to over 40,000 occurances this year at a cost of 15 million dollars. Yet very few get caught or given tough penalties.

So when is it we got too light? Was it the same time we all became so rude? It seems the more we get away with the ruder we as a society become. Can it be that the two are related?

In the last few days I have allowed people to merge into my lane, because well lets face it if i didnt my car would have had an extra couple of coloured stripes up the side. I have held elevator doors open while people dash toward them, we all know how painfull waiting for elevators is. Did i recieve any thanks for any of my recent gestures. NO. Not one!

To go to the extremes, I have had a middle age woman at coles nearly barge me out of the way in what i think she thought was some supermarket sweep movement so she could get to the line before me. Needless to say she was feeding her husband and her 3.2 children for the next week, plus her diamonte collared poodle, where as I was feeding me for like 24 hours.
So where have our manners gone?

Have the introduction of instant messages, emails, SMS etc to our lifestyles diminished our capacity to be nice to people? Have we forgotten what it is like to say please and thank you?
I am talking to someone via MSN as I am writing this and I am having this exact problem. Short abbrassive messages with profanities and derrogatory remarks. yes I atract such lovely people. What amazes me more is that they do not realise they are being rude. And now.. wait. yes he has realised his mistake and said "arent we all sometimes?" So an apology yeah? No!

ugh im over this post already..
ill come bck when im more motivated
