If Jesus isn't the answer... One wonders what is??davefreemanAugust 23 2006, 15:29:25 UTC
In the many years I have known you now Paul, you have always had a way with taking a serious issue and adding your own tongue-in-cheek humour and fast (opinionated) wit and creating a literature masterpiece. Well done, you've done it again!
I just couldn't resist adding my "two bobs worth" to your post. I know we have had religious discussions in the past (that generally got us nowhere... but hey, it's fun!) and although i still don't really know where my beliefs about religion lie, I always like to play "devils (or Jesus) advocate" when I can.
One thing I do believe is that IF there is our mighty creator above, the bible is an ancient interpretation of God's word. I have no doubt that things have been added and omitted from the bible over the years and churches and religious ministers have created THEIR OWN interpretations as well.
You said in your post: 'Since Jesus found out I was a "Gay", we kinda stopped getting along.' Is this really true. Did Jesus really turn his back on you just because you are "a Gay"?
I believe that everything happens for a reason and every person who is born has a purpose in life. Being "Gay" is not something God or Jesus would abolish someone from the kingdom of heaven for! Religion at it's core is founded on beliefs of acceptance, tolerance and compassion - that is what Jesus would want for all of us. It is the HUMAN element of religion that makes things turn ugly and divides people. You are "a Gay" because that is the path God has chosen for you - and I'm sure he would love all of his sons and daughters in the same way.
I agree those bumper stickers are annoying and I certainly don't attend church each week. But I understand that if there is a God that he would want me to be compassionate and accepting of all people regardless of colour, age, religion, sexuality or gender... so that is exactly what I am going to do.
I believe that Jesus being crucified was a sign of self-sacrifice, and rising from the dead 2 days later gave everyone something to believe in. Jesus showed everyone then that he truly is the son of God, it was a miracle. He had no reason to be pissed off with his father, it was the Romans that nailed him to the cross that he should've been pissed off with, BUT he still forgave them! What a guy!
We all have a choice in this life, shall we be bitter and hold a grudge that others have things better than us - or do we help others and include them in our social circles. I know which one God would hope we choose (even if the Churches do not).

Ha well i was pushing my tongue so hard against my sheek i thought i'd poke it all the way through. Guess it's a good thing im used to objects in my mouth. ;)
After all the discussions WE have had you know I agree with all of what you have said. That is of course if i do choose to believe that these stories could indeed be true and not some Shakesperean type love story.
BUt absolutely as a society we all need to accept each other and have tolerances for our differences. Escpet for those wankers at telstra. Grr! Hate them all you like. oh yeah and John Howard... Where's MY screwdriver? (Or is that screwdrivehim?)
On a serious note... these are my goals... kinda sums up a little about me in case people have lost touch with what i stand for.
~~~~~To learn and develop knowledge and person at every opportunity available, through arts, study, people and places, past, present and future. To strive for excellence in every facet of my life, learn and understand the infinite possibilities that present themselves and refrain from becoming complacent. To value friends and family for whom they are, without prejudice to their faults and continue to show compassion for others.
To develop my understanding of what is the best use of my time at every moment and to eliminate procrastination.
And most of all to be happy for who I am and the experiences I have had in my life. ~~~~~~
