hello new lj friend! anyway, i figured out what happened to us this morning! it was this:

A Study of the Salmon
So if you guys haven't gotten a salmon bot yet, that's a damn shame. The basic rundown of how a salmon works:

1) You post on LJ.
2) The salmon selects you out of random people who are posting on LJ.
3) The salmon selects another random person who has just posted on LJ.
4) The salmon connects the two of you over AIM, replacing both of your screen names with a Salmoncentric screen name, such as "AppliedSalmon" "JoyousSalmon" "HungrySalmon", etc.
5) Confusion ensues.

Much like the Hat Bot of ages past, the salmon continues the long-standing tradition of LJ-crackery. Here is a study of the salmon through extensive research of one of the best salmons I've ever gotten:

~The salmon does not like you to find each other outside salmondom. If you try to ask for your salmon's ACTUAL screenname, the bot will screen the response and replace it with something terribly offensive, like "CockingDickSucker31" or something to that extent. So if you happen to get friendly with your salmon, try other means to get in contact with them, such as asking what their LJ handle is.
NOTE: Do NOT ask your salmon to actually LINK you to their LJ. Further experimentation must be performed to determine the safety and effectiveness of sending links through the salmon.
~The salmon likes to confuse you and keep you on your toes. The bot will occasionally interrupt your conversation with nonsense such as "RANDOM QUERY: Please answer the following questions. How old are you, and have you ever listened to the B-52's, specifically Rock Lobster?" The bot will eventually reconnect you with your salmon, though. Never fear.
~If you wish to be struck by the salmon, you stand a better chance to attract it by posting during early morning hours when there is very little traffic on LJ. For example, I operate on EST and post almost entirely between 1:00 - 5:00 AM. I have been struck by the salmon quite frequently.
~Have fun with your salmon. Don't get all serious about it, or you're likely to just be frustrated! Tonight, my salmon and I engaged in an epic battle against zombies! It doesn't HAVE to be a bother!

my actual screenname for aim is behkachrissy - not a salmon thing. just fyi - but how wierd!

.....Thats really sketchy but awesome at the same time? ITs funny, because now I recall this happened before, and the bot or whatever was like, "DON'T TALK TO ME," and made me look like a creepy fark.
