It has been the most horrible six years. Her husband is gone - a terrible cancer that tormented John to his very last hours. Her children are lost to her, too. Billy, shot down from his plane over the sea. They never found his body. Meg, nursing at the front, captured and left to die in an enemy camp. Little Andrew, destroyed by a bomb that landed on his school. It’s like being alone again, but worse. There’s nothing she can live for now. She doesn’t think she’ll bother trying.
